This blog is to share my experience of living with PTSD due to Military Sexual Trauma, my service dog, and the support of my wife as I try to help others find ways to get through the pain of being raped by fellow service members.
*Headdesk* - Blogger just ate my comment! And it was FANTASTIC! (Ok maybe not fantastic. Maybe "Take 2" will be better.)
I thought I'd start my comments here, since the film is what led me here.
I wanted to thank you for being in the film, and for sharing your story and talking about your life, because your specific story helped me in a way that probably wasn't intended. I've never been in the military, and my history is very different from yours, but somehow, we both seem to have ended up in a similar place.
When I started watching the film, I had no idea what it was about. It was on PBS and I joined in about 5 minutes late. So when everyone was talking about their positive experiences in training, I didn't know where those stories would lead.
The reason I'm so thankful to you, is because I was immediately drawn in by you, and I wasn't sure why. Then when the film jumped forward to your current life, it was as if someone said "There you go. That's why you're watching." Because the day to day challenges you face, now, seem a lot like mine. And I've never seen someone "like me" before.
So even though I wasn't your intended audience (not MST), your being in the film had a huge impact on me. And I'm so grateful you were in it. Because if you hadn't been, I'd still think I was the only person in the world like me.
Please support this movie and it's efforts to educate and put an end to rape in the military!
